On June 5th, Gachon University held the opening ceremony of the ‘Gachon University Bio-Healthcare Convergence Research Institute’ at the University Vision Tower, officially launching its role as a hub for talent development and technological innovation in Gyeonggi Province’s bio-health industry.
The ceremony was organized as part of the Gyeonggi-do-led ‘Bio-Health Innovation Platform (GUIP) Project,’ aiming to establish an industry-academia-research collaboration system and build a foundation for nurturing talents in cutting-edge fields such as digital healthcare, AI medical technology, and bio-medical devices.
The event began with an opening address by Seowon Sik, Director of the Research Institute (also head of the GUIP Project at Gachon University), followed by congratulatory speeches from Lee Eejun, Director of the Seongnam Industry Promotion Agency, and Vice President Yoon Wonjoong of Gachon University. The ceremony continued with a presentation session attended by university, industry, and government officials.
During the presentation session, Professor Lee Dongwoo from Gachon University’s Department of Biomedical Engineering, CEO Lee Hunsang of Curaco Co., and Director Lee Jongseok of the Gyeonggi Economic Science Promotion Agency outlined their institutions’ roles and collaboration strategies, discussing plans to build a bio-health talent ecosystem.
With the establishment of this research institute, Gachon University plans to operate a practical, hands-on curriculum and a real industry-academia-research platform through collaboration with local companies. In partnership with Gyeonggi Province, the university will foster an open innovation ecosystem, aiming to become a global innovation hub in the bio-health industry.
Director Seowon Sik stated, “This opening is more than just the launch of an institution; it marks the university’s first step in leading a sustainable bio-health innovation ecosystem that integrates industry and local communities. Moving forward, Gachon University will dedicate itself to responsibly operating a platform where industry, academia, and research can grow together.”
