From April 7 to 11, Gachon University sent a delegation of 24 professors specializing in advanced technologies, including semiconductors, to the 2025 MRS Spring Meeting & Exhibit, the world’s largest international academic conference in materials science, held at the Seattle Convention Center in Washington State, USA. The team presented their latest research findings at the event.

It is uncommon for a university to independently send such a large faculty delegation to an international academic conference. Gachon University aims to showcase its research capabilities in cutting-edge technology fields on a global stage, share international research outcomes, and further strengthen its research and educational capacity through this participation.

In 2024, Gachon University established Korea’s first standalone Semiconductor College and was designated a Ministry of Education Semiconductor-Specialized University. Professors from the Department of Semiconductor Engineering, Department of Electronic Engineering, Department of Semiconductor Physics, Department of Semiconductor Display, and the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering attended the conference, presenting a total of 12 research papers.

Key presentation topics included:

△ Oxide semiconductor-based thin-film transistor technology (Professors Lee Sangryul and Choi Seungwook)

△ Textile-based flexible OLED sensor development (Professors Cho Euisik and Lim Moosub)

△ Drug screening and treatment technologies using 3D cell-chip platforms (Professors Cho Seongbo and Park Geunju)

Other presentations highlighted advanced research achievements in areas such as optoelectronics, quantum dots, and energy harvesting devices, covering display, energy, and bio-convergence fields.

The 2025 MRS Spring Meeting featured around 100 detailed symposia, exhibitions, poster sessions, and expert panels centered around nine major themes:

△ Electronics, Optics, and Photonics

△ Energy Materials

△ Soft and Biomaterials

△ Quantum Materials and Topological Systems

△ Sustainability

Among the attendees were numerous global scholars, including Nobel and Kavli Prize laureates, making the conference a prime platform for high-level technical networking.

Professor Lee Sangryul, Dean of the Semiconductor College, stated, “This international academic conference was a valuable opportunity to directly engage with world-renowned scholars and share our research achievements. We hope it leads to further collaborations, including joint research and international academic exchanges.”

President Lee Gilya remarked, “Through our faculty’s participation in the MRS, Gachon University will expand its global networking in key advanced technology fields such as semiconductors, batteries, and biotechnology. We will continue to enhance our research infrastructure and industry-academia collaboration systems to strengthen the university’s global competitiveness.”
